The Climate Was Hotter In Roman & Medieval Periods

Nature Climate Change, the cooling effect of orbital shifting on the climate has been up to four times as powerful as anthropogenic (human-caused) warming pressures
The denial by warming alarmists of a hotter climate in Roman and Medieval times has long been a central foundation to support the flawed theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming.
According to hockey stick creator Michael E Mann, the Medieval Warming Period (MWP) was a localised event, if indeed the MWP actually happened for Michael Mann at all.
New research has found that the MWP reached as far as Antarctica, as an indicator atmospheric levels of CO2, at the time were around 250 ppm, as opposed to 393 ppm today. Greenland (the clue is in the name) was not always covered in ice as it is today, between 982 AD – 1500 AD the Vikings farmed Greenland, in recent times Viking Farms have been found frozen in the permafrost.
The Greenland of 800,000 years ago was a vastly different place to the land we know today, covered with pine and spruce forests and a large insect population, DNA from moths and butterflies has been found in ice core samples, along with seeds from trees.
A new study measuring temperatures over the past two millennia has concluded that in fact the temperatures seen in the last decade are far from being the hottest in history.
A large team of scientists making a comprehensive study of data from tree rings say that in fact global temperatures have been on a falling trend for the past 2,000 years and they have often been noticeably higher than they are today – despite the absence of any significant amounts of human-released carbon dioxide in the atmosphere back then.
“We found that previous estimates of historical temperatures during the Roman era and the Middle Ages were too low,” says Professor-Doktor Jan Esper of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, one of the scientists leading the study. “Such findings are also significant with regard to climate policy.”
They certainly are, as it is a central plank of climate policy worldwide that the current temperatures are the highest ever seen for many millennia, and that this results from rising levels of atmospheric CO2 emitted by human activities such as industry, transport etc.
If it is the case that actually the climate has often been warmer without any significant CO2 emissions having taken place – suggesting that CO2 emissions simply aren’t that important – the case for huge efforts to cut those emissions largely disappears.
Where warming alarmist scientists rune casters have acknowledged the MWP they then try to blame the Little Ice Age that followed the MWP on Christopher Columbus discovering America.
The alarmist fable goes like this “Columbus discovered America, which opened the flood gates for millions of settlers who brought diseases, which killed off the Native Americans who because they were dead no longer cut down forests for firewood, this in turn caused the level of atmospheric CO2 to drop because more trees consume more CO2, and ergo this what caused the Little Ice Age.”
Where the warmist Colombus theory falls flat, is that the Black Death (1348 AD – 1350 AD) killed between 30-60% of Europe’s population, an estimated 75 million people, people from a more industrialised society that readily cut down large swathes of forest, people who in todays Green terms already had a carbon footprint.
In a period of 2 years the population of Europe was significantly reduced, it took Europe 150 years for its population to recover, yet the MWP continued for 200 years after the Black Death struck.
Then just as Europe’s poplualtion levels recovered, in a by then more industrialised society which meant increasing CO2 emissions, the Little Ice Age arrived and lasted for approximately 300 years, and all the while CO2 emissions from humans continued to increase.

There is also abundant evidence that most of the Holocene was warmer than now, and that the LIA was the coldest period since the end of the ice age.
