Greenland A Scary New Fear Story About Melting Ice

There are 3 things guaranteed to get the Climate Change hysteria machine to run at full throttle: polar bears, Green taxation to support the uneconomic solar and wind industries and ice, be it in the form of glacier or sheet, predictions of sea levels rising millions of feet will immediately follow, should any polar or glacial ice have the temerity to melt.

Greenland has long been a favourite base for the warmists never ending predictions of environmental Armageddon, but, and this is an important but, Greenland has not always been the ice encrusted wilderness we know today, the clue is in the name Greenland, it is not called Iceland.

During the Middle Age warming period 1000 AD – 1500 AD Greenland was a green and pleasant land some of the year, winters started early and were harsh. The Vikings were there for 500 years farming and trading, until the onset of the Little Ice Age when Greenland was abandoned by the Vikings.

Now the warming alarmist fear story machine is in full swing because the melt of the Greenland ice sheet in July 2012 has been faster than any other time in recorded history, which is not true, but never mind the truth has always been the first casualty of the Great Global Warming Scam.

The Greenland ice sheet melted at a faster rate this month than at any other time in recorded history, with virtually the entire ice sheet showing signs of thaw.

The rapid melting over just four days was captured by three satellites. It has stunned and alarmed scientists, and deepened fears about the pace and future consequences of climate change.

In a statement posted on Nasa’s website on Tuesday, scientists admitted the satellite data was so striking they thought at first there had to be a mistake.

“This was so extraordinary that at first I questioned the result: was this real or was it due to a data error?” Son Nghiem of Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena said in the release.

He consulted with several colleagues, who confirmed his findings. Dorothy Hall, who studies the surface temperature of Greenland at Nasa’s space flight centre in Greenbelt, Maryland, confirmed that the area experienced unusually high temperatures in mid-July, and that there was widespread melting over the surface of the ice sheet.

Climatologists Thomas Mote, at the University of Georgia, and Marco Tedesco, of the City University of New York, also confirmed the melt recorded by the satellites.

However, scientists were still coming to grips with the shocking images on Tuesday. “I think it’s fair to say that this is unprecedented,” Jay Zwally, a glaciologist at Nasa’s Goddard Space Flight Center, told the Guardian

It is always “unprecedented” when the Green lying machine gets going, strange how they managed to miss out “tipping point” from the propaganda.

“Ice cores from Summit show that melting events of this type occur about once every 150 years on average. With the last one happening in 1889, this event is right on time,” says Lora Koenig, a Goddard glaciologist and a member of the research team analyzing the satellite data.

So this type of event is cyclic and occurs on average every 150 years, which makes a complete mockery of the Guardian stating the ice sheet melted faster than at any time in recorded history and Jay Zwally flogging the unprecedented word to death again.

This is just another attempt to keep the Great Global Warming scam alive, where in this instance a newspaper and a NASA employee have, at best  obfuscated the truth,  and at worst lied,  you can  make your own decision on that one.
