Street Lights Melt Because Of Global Warming

Melted street lights in Stillwater, Oklahoma melted by Global Warming, or was it a dumpster fire?

Talk about a drowning man clutching at straws, the post Rio+20 world has brought forth from the warming alarmist industry an increasingly desperate mix of straw clutching and event attribution, where everything that has ever happened, might happen, or will happen is directly attributable to Anthropogenic Global Warming.

Temperatures in Stillwater, OK reached 115 degrees so when a picture of some melted street lights appeared the warming alarmist shills at far left website ThinkProgress knew immediately that the only possible cause for this was Global Warming:

As originally reported by TP’s Stephen Lacey:

Here’s a picture from Stillwater, Oklahoma, where temperatures will reach has high as 115 degrees today. The photo comes from Patrick Hunter, who sent the picture to KFOR-TV. [...]

Even as residents swelter in the relentless heat, Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe continued his tirade about man-made global warming during a Senate hearing yesterday, saying the science had “collapsed.”

It appears the only thing collapsing are the street lights.

That was in an article published Thursday hysterically titled “In Oklahoma, It’s So Hot The Street Lights Are Melting.”

As soon as the story appeared the warming alarmists grabbed it and ran with it for all it was worth, Bill McKibben, founder of warming alarmist NGO 350.org, took to Twitter to proclaim a melting event caused by AGW.

McKibben is desperate for something to melt in 2012, earlier this year McKibben planned to melt a huge ice sculpture of the word Hoax! in front of Capitol Hill, but it all went very wrong and McKibben cancelled the event because of a small problem that was as usual, overlooked. Due to the size of Hoax! sculpture it would have taken between 2 – 3 days to melt.

McKibben tried to bullshit his way out of the fiasco with this:

Dear Friends,

I think I screwed up.

Yesterday 350.org sent out an email, telling people that we were going to melt a big hunk of ice in the form of the word “Hoax?” in front of Capitol Hill. We asked for money for it, and also for relief efforts for victims of the heat wave. The idea was simple enough: if this epic heatwave gripping the nation has one small silver lining, it’s that its reminding people that global warming is very very real. And the response was strong — we raised the $5000 it would have taken to pull off the event, and far more than that for relief efforts.

But we also heard from old friends, especially in nearby West Virginia, who asked us not to do it. The sight of ice melting while they sweltered would be too hard to take; their region, they pointed out, is as hard hit as any in the country by the heat wave, and it would make people feel like their plight wasn’t being taken seriously.

Based upon McKibben’s post it would appear that his warming alarmist friends in Virginia are  less committed to the cause, as the sight of melting ice would apparently be their tipping point.

Then the man who took the picture of the melted street lights released his side of the story:

If you go to that link now, you’ll find a completely different story with the headline “UPDATE: In Oklahoma City, It’s So Hot And Dry There’s Mandatory Water Rationing.”

Way down at the bottom is this:

UPDATE: After we published this piece, we saw reports from people on the ground in Stillwater that the melting streetlights were due to a nearby fire. The person who took the photo, Patrick Hunter, described the scene: “Being the person that actually took this photo, I’d say that this was due to a fire semi-close by coupled with the unbelievable heat we are experiencing. Still an amazing photo and not fake as many are saying on here. Enjoy!”

The street lights incidentally, are made of high density polyethylene which melts at 266 degrees Fahrenheit.

Senator Jim Inhofe’s office released this picture of the dumpster fire

The sheer stupidity of using event attribution to global warming is glaringly obvious, if the street lights had melted due to the temperature then all the lights would have melted, not just the 2 globes at the front of the array.

  1. They use event attribution samples because clearly people like yourself are not moved by data.

    • I am “moved” by valid data, not data that ignores the urban heat island effect, and most especially not by data that has fraudlently edited by Hansen, or ignores the Middle Age Warming Period.

Their event attribution is as “valid” as their data

    • BWAAAHAHAHA, so this pic with a lie and it was supposed to be worth a 1000 of their other lies, is what your saying?

    • But of course the natural question is why is this an example of something the AGW promoters are so quick to jump on to trumpet their cause? You’d think that to be certain the news item isn’t met with ridicule, they’d first check that lots of other bits of plastic in that area are also uniformly melted. Or at least ask if global cooling accounts for the unmelted side of these globes.

This is not really anything new. As near as I can tell, not one of the AGW promoters ever checked the veracity of the accusation that skeptic climate scientists are on the payroll of ‘big coal & oil’, going back to when the accusation was first made. 2. Welcome to the world of idiots!
I believe the American Psyciatric Society has determed that 20 % of the population suffers from some sort of mental illnes. Not very reasuring in our daily travels and discourse!
