COP18 Day 5 – The USA Kills COP18 Stone Dead

US climate change negotiator Jonathan Pershing "America will not commit economic suicide by signing up to a climate deal"

US climate change negotiator Jonathan Pershing “America will not commit economic suicide by signing up to a climate deal”

There is an almost morbid fascination watching the annual UN Climate Circus meeting doing what it does every year, become a slow motion car crash, especially coming so soon after the Rio+20 Earth Summit crashed and burned so badly.

COP18 has gone badly from the start on Monday, there is suspicion that the COP18 President Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah worships Shale Gas and not the politically correct ManBearPig religion, no one is quite sure where Qatar stands on being terrified of CO2, the Green NGOs are being ignored and then to add insult to injury, the evil Climate Change denying Poles have been chosen to host COP19.

Then of course, when you think that things cannot get any worse, they do:

US climate change negotiator Jonathan Pershing says there is no chance of the USA signing up to a climate deal that requires the country to make substantial cuts in its emissions.

If you saw that one coming raise your hands.

The Times of India has obtained a transcript from a closed meeting with NGOs Pershing attended in Doha on Wednesday evening, where he outlined the USA’s ‘red lines’ when it comes to negotiations on a 2015 climate treaty.

In particular he takes issue with proposals for atmospheric quantities of CO2 to be ‘equitably’ divided among the world’s states, arguing that it would leave the US having to commit economic suicide.

Greening of an economy equates to economic suicide, many of us have been saying and writing this for years as the legions of heavily subsidised Green wind turbines and acres of solar panels have  besmirched the planet.

“It’s a vision you can say that the atmosphere can take an X quantity of coal emissions and therefore what you do is you divide that number into percentage,” he said.

“The obligation it states is that you (the US) would have to reduce its emissions down to negative 37% (below 1990 levels).

Perhaps Pershing has had his Damascene moment on the road to Doha, or may be  there is another reason:

US President Barack Obama has already said he will only take actions that will boost US jobs: “if the message is somehow we’re going to ignore jobs and growth simply to address climate change, I don’t think anybody’s going to go for that. I won’t go for that,” he said.

Flashback 2009 and Barack Obama’s setteled science speech where Anthropogenic Global Warming posed a grave and growing danger and the only solution was to cut CO2 emissions and Green the world.

Yet another clear illustration that the whole Global Warming, Climate Change, Weather Weirding boondoggle was never anything more than a political agenda and a fad, now even once ardent supporters of man made climate change realise that the whole political idea is economically unviable and are distancing themselves from the Greens.

There is still a hardcore element in the UN and some developing countries hoping to keep the scam alive and the gravy train rolling, then there are the crony capitalist businesses in wind turbines, wind farms, solar panels, electric vehicles and batteries who have an equally vested interest in keeping the fear of CO2 alive.

The problem the Green scammers now face is that politicians know that Green policies are no longer vote winners, the voters are wise to the economic, social and environmental impact of Green energy and emissions reductions.

The problem that the politicians face is that having once been so “Green” it is very difficult to maintain credibility by publicly denouncing what you once so fervently evangelised, all they can realistically do is ride out the storm and wait for the Green Dream to vanish, and vanishing it is, faster each day.

  2. Thanks Tory. Now we need to cut off its head, tear it limb from limb, drive a stake through its heart and bury it the cross roads at night. This thing will take some killing yet. Here is another stake . .

  3. “US President Barack Obama has already said he will only take actions that will boost US jobs”

He has also said that his would be the most transparent administration in history, that without the $800 billion stimulus unemployment would go above 8%, that lobbyists would have no place in his administration, he would close Gitmo, etc, etc, etc. It’s safest to believe the opposite of what he (or any other politician) says.

  4. Unfortunately, Maurice Strong is in China and greatly influencing their direction toward something called “clean tech” which like “sustainability” can mean anything you want it to!
The scam is not quite over yet, even though it’s lookin’ good.

    • Maurice Strong is a fellow Canadian but he over stayed his welcome here and moved to China for his brighter future, seems Canada likes to trade with them but don’t want to be like them. But someone does, apparently…… Sucks to be him!

  5. XX US climate change negotiator Jonathan Pershing says there is no chance of the USA signing up to a climate deal that requires the country to make substantial cuts in its emissions. XX

    Hmm?!

GIVEN, that he has followed every other “conference”, and has known the out come, why the HEL did he even bother turning out?

Of course, the good point is, he has given the “climatoligists” a good kick in the balls. Which can NEVER be seen as a waste of time.

  6. I wouldn’t worry about the Chinese, they are very smart and they don’t trust us anyway, regarding how we do business. They’ll do what they want to that benefits them not others.
