IPCC Chief Rajendra Pachauri We Are All Going To Die (Again) But No Armageddon Date This Time
The pre-COP silly season is well underway with all outlets of the Global Warming industry spreading doom, gloom, fear and trying desperately to find non existent heat in the deep oceans.
No run up to a UNFCCC COP meeting would complete without some predictions of Armageddon from the head of the UNFCCC Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Rajendra Pachauri.
The head of the IPCC is not a climate scientist, nor indeed any form of scientist, Pachauri is by profession a railway engineer and a part time soft core porn novel writer, with a long track record of making failed predictions of when the 4 Green horsemen of Apocalypse will arrive.
Now in Pachauri world it is 5 minutes to Green midnight and the Apocalypse:
UN climate science chief Rajendra Pachauri says the world is facing imminent disaster unless countries take swift action to curtail greenhouse gas emissions.
Speaking in Delhi on Monday he said: “We have five minutes before midnight,” arguing that governments had historically avoided taking responsibility for global warming.
Pachauri has been harping on about the Green Apocalypse being just around the corner for years:
We have just a small window of opportunity and it is closing rather rapidly. There is not a moment to lose.
If there’s no action before 2012, that’s too late. What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future. This is the defining moment.
I am very worried that we are running out of time.
It is very important to reach an [international emissions] agreement by 2009.
If we allow things to continue unchanged and we don’t take action today, it would destabilize human society…I hope that in the next year and a half…that we show a certain resolve and aspiration to do things that are required for the benefit of the human race.
The least cost part of effective emissions reduction would really require us to see that global emissions peak no later than 2015. And that’s just four years away…if we have to meet that requirement of a least cost trajectory of emissions stabilisation then we really need to move rapidly and every country in the world has to do that.
It has to be said that Pachauri has finally learned from his past mistakes about time stamping Armageddon, when the first predictions failed to happen, Pachauri resorted to slipping the date back a few years, as this has not panned out either, we are now left with the meaningless cliché of 5 minutes to midnight.
