Falkland Islands Oil Could Triple Britain’s Reserves
Flashback: 1982 a corrupt Argentine Government led by General Galtieri is in dire financial trouble and deeply unpopular at home, in a desperate effort to divert attention from his problems at home Galtieri reiterated Argentina’s old and completely baseless 19th claim to the Falkland Islands. As history shows Galtieri made the biggest mistake of his career when he decided to invade the Falkland Islands; despite some limited success the largely conscripted Argentinian invaders were decisively beaten by the British Forces in a 74 day war which ended on June 14th 1982.
The Falkland Islanders wish to remain British, their experience of life under Argentinian occupation can best be summed up by, on June 14 every year the islanders celebrate Liberation Day.
FastForward: 2012 a corrupt Argentine Government led by Cristina Kirchner in dire financial trouble and seeking to divert attention from the problems at home is making the same erroneous claims as Galtieiri for the Falklands. Cristina Kirchner who assumed power after the death of her husband Nestor in 2010 is politically toxic, a close ally of Hugo Chavez, even Barry Obama cancelled a visit to Buenos Aires scheduled for April 2011.
The Argentine economy is in free fall, the IMF are enacting sanctions against the country and now huge oil reserves have been found off the Falkland Islands: Read the rest of this entry
The Falkland Islands Are British, End Of
History has a nasty habit of repeating itself, nearly 30 years ago an unpopular right wing government in Britain was implementing defence cuts, on the other side of the world in the southern hemisphere a fascist military government was in trouble and needed a cause to unify its people.
In 1982 using a spurious sovereignty claim to the Falkland Islands, Argentina perceived the defence cuts in Britain as making the country weak and invaded the Falkland Islands. A 10 week war followed where it was a close run thing, but Argentina was beaten decisively by better men and tactics. Read the rest of this entry
Royal Wootton Bassett
A small market town in Wiltshire has earned a special place in the hearts of many in Britain, Wootton Bassett as a community turns out whatever the weather to line the roads as the hearses carrying the coffins our war dead are driven to Oxford, not only in Wootton Bassett but all along the road small parties of ex-servicemen and women and people who just want to show solidarity and support with the families who have lost so much, line the route.
Now Wotton Bassett is to become Royal Wotton Bassett: Read the rest of this entry
Guardian – Vietnam Shows Us The Green Cost Of Combat
It has been sometime since anything has irritated Aardvark as much as this article in the Guardian about the carbon foot print of war, and holding people accountable for environmental damage after a war has ended.
Never missing a chance to resurrect that left wing cause The Vietnam War, the chance to blame those nasty Americans and then linking one left wing cause celebre with another Climate Change, the Guardian has really excelled in living in rose tinted spectacles pixie dust land.
Where best to being such an article if you are an ageing left wing journalist?

Honour Our Forces End The Tragedy Of Homeless Ex-Service People @HONOUROURFORCES http://www.honour-our-forces.co.uk/
At this moment in time there are at least 70,000 ex-service men and women homeless in this country, it’s bad enough that they are homeless anyway, but in this freezing cold they are more vulnerable than ever. 70,000 is a number that is difficult to comprehend as a mass of people, let me quantify it, roughly the entire population of a small city like Bath sleep rough every night and everyone of these people have served their country.
A while ago I wrote a blog article about homeless ex-service people for another charity, I still can’t find better words to try and make the point so I am reusing it in part:
This country has failed it’s service and women consistently, and without exception, in the aftermath of every war since we became a so-called modern nation.
A war comes along, we call on our people to fight, and when it’s over we turn our backs on them.
The blame can be attached to every government, be they Conservative, Labour or Liberal, they have all failed monumentally.
More people who saw combat in the Falklands War have committed suicide since the war ended, than were killed in the fighting.
Think about it for a moment, it’s not only a scandal, it’s far worse than that as hundred’s of human tragedies are acted out alone and in the pit of despair.
“You think after serving your time in the Army society will accept you,” he says, “but they don’t and no one helps.” Read the rest of this entry
The Scandal of Homeless Ex-Service People Update
One of the advantages of running a blog site, is that from time to time you can let rip about something you are not happy about; so today Aardvark is taking a break from political blogging to climb on his anthill to talk about the scandal of homeless ex-service people

On the Veterans Aid screen under Donate there is the text “Help give a homeless veteran a bed for the night”; this makes Aardvark feel very ashamed to live in a country where this has happened for decades.

The Iraq Inquiry – It Is Going To Be A Whitewash
Many military strategists will tell you to the best place to hide something is in plain sight, this stratagem also applies to politics.
It has long been the British way to use the Public Inquiry to achieve this end.
Gordon Brown originally wanted the Iraq Inquiry to be held in secret but bowed to pressure and famously U turned, or did he? One thing you can say with certainty about the Prime Mentalist is that what he offers with one hand he takes away with the other.
Brown has a lot to lose not only politically, but also personally. It is bad enough for Labour that Tony Blair has repetitively lied to Parliament and the country so he could start his illegal war and get his place in history. The problem for Labour and Brown is that as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Tony Blair’s right hand man, Brown would have been fully briefed to the same extent as Blair on the non-existent WMD’s; Brown would also have had to provide the finance for the war.
Gordon Brown is as deeply involved in this as Tony Blair, Read the rest of this entry
